The Wednesday Word

A NATIONAL OUTREACH TO 21st CENTURY SCHOOL FAMILIES.

The Wednesday Word outreach is based in evangelisation and shares the Gospel in a new way.

The outreach aims to help all school families draw closer to God, to the Church and to each other. The Wednesday Word particularly seeks to reach the majority of parents (which statistics tell us are often more than 80% in many schools) who do not hear the Gospel read in church or read the Bible together.

The primary school version of The Wednesday Word is a beautifully produced resource (with imprimatur) - a high-quality Sunday Gospel resource which carries the Sunday Gospel into school family homes.

The weekly pdf can be photocopied by the school for the children to receive the leaflet in school each week – as a Gospel ‘gift’ - for them to take home and share this Gospel ‘gift’ with their family. Alternatively. The resource can be emailed home directly to parents each week. Either method of distribution creates a new opportunity for the Word to be present in the homes of all school families connected to participating primary schools.

The weekly appearance of The Wednesday Word in the home is also designed to act as a gentle, regular invitation to Sunday Mass throughout the time families are connected to the life of the school.

This is a most excellent way to support school families through sharing the good news of the Sunday Gospel - whilst enhancing the Home, School and Parish partnership.

This 21st Century outreach to families is dedicated to St Joseph, Patron Saint of Families. Within the tradition of the Catholic Church, each Wednesday is dedicated to St Joseph.
